AVRC, a center of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), was established in 1962 to deliver its services to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to achieve the highest level of physical, mental, social and economic sufficiency of which they are capable within the bounds of their capacities and limitations through a wide range of social and vocational activities.
DSWD Regional Director Marie Angela Gopala served as the inducting officer and encouraged the area partners to help remove the stereo-type of what the differently-abled people cannot do, instead, focus on what can be done.
“We are always grateful for the advisory council because we have talking heads that can bring the correct mindset and we have people looking out for each other especially in this time of pandemic,” Director Gopala said.
Center Superintendent Elizabeth Manuel thanked the attendees and said the advisory committee shall advise and assist AVRC-DSWD on matters pertaining to the instructional program.
The primary concern of the committee in this Area is the establishment of practices that will keep instruction practical, relevant and competitive in the labor industry especially for its clients, she added.
“There are many challenges brought by the pandemic. There are restrictions but we capacitate our clients in information technology like promoting online training in their homes. Working with all of you is a wonderful opportunity. Our partnership is something AVRC will not forget,” Manuel said.
The new set of officers is led by the Department of Education as chair, Maxima Training Institute as vice-chair, AVRC as secretary, Graystone Insititute as sub-secretary and Rotary Club of Uptown Dagupan as treasurer.
The sub-committees include Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) for the sub-committee on information dissemination; Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and training schools for training and education subcom; Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Pangasinan Provincial Employment Services Office for job placement; Provincial Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) and Land Transportation Office (LTO) for monitoring and evaluation and AVRC for ways and means subcommittee.
