TESDA urges LGUs to hire contact tracing graduates

PASIG CITY, May 4 (PIA) -- Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Deputy Director General Aniceto “John” Bertiz III has urged various local government units (LGUs) to tap the agency’s certified contact tracing graduates for their respective barangays.

Bertiz, a former lawmaker, also urged LGUs to avail of TESDA Contact Tracing Training Program Level II (CTTP II) and recruit local enrollees to help leverage the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) response across the country.

“With the rapid rise in coronavirus cases, there is an urgent need for additional contract tracers to be deployed in our localities and help track down those who come in contact with positive COVID-19 patients,” he said.

“We are reiterating our appeal to our local chief executives to hire our graduates who have earned their national certification under our contact tracing program,” he added.

Latest data showed that a total of 2,520 scholars nationwide have so far graduated from the CTTP. About five hundred fifty-six (556) of these graduates, however, were hired by LGUs while 435 of them were hired by various sectors.

In National Capital Region (NCR) alone where infection cases have consistently surged in the past few weeks despite health and safety protocols, out of the 544 graduates of CTTP II in 2020, only 29 were currently hired.

In collaboration with the Department of Health, Philippine Red Cross, and TESDA Technology Institutions (TTIs), the agency launched its CTTP last September to stem the spread of coronavirus in communities, especially in the high-risk areas.

According to Bertiz, there are now 117 TESDA Technology Institutions (TTIs) nationwide that have registered the CTTP Level II course.

“This training program for contact tracers runs for 120 hours or equivalent to 15 days on blended learning modality,” he explained.

“As part of its whole-of-the-nation responses to smother the further spread of the COVID-19 among the population, TESDA is offering scholarship for contact tracers,” he further pointed out.

Under the CTTP II, Each trainee will be provided with a training allowance amounting to P2,400, insurance coverage, P500 internet allowance, and another P500 for personal protection equipment (PPE).

Bertiz assured LGUs that TESDA will continue to coordinate and partner with them on linking healthcare-related program graduates for employment during this period of the pandemic and beyond. (PIA NCR)
