Benguet Legislative Caretaker and ACT-CIS Representative Eric Go Yap turned over one unit of the RT PCR machine to the BeGH Chief of Hospital Dr. Meliarazon Dulay on April 20, as part of his continuing support to the people of Benguet in the ongoing fight against the COVID-19.
The new machine will help sustain the operation of the BeGH molecular laboratory, which recently was temporarily halted due to the needed maintenance of its existing RT PCR machine, and with several of the lab personnel testing positive the COVID-19.
The molecular laboratory went on full swing operation processing COVID-19 specimen from the swab tests conducted in the different municipalities of Benguet and those collected by the Provincial Health Office after the Department of Health through its Health Facilities and Services Regulatory Bureau issued its License to Operate on February 16, 2021.
The molecular lab can process a maximum of 2,700 to 2,800 RT PCR tests a month or at least 90 specimen in a day, and with the new equipment, it is expected to double the testing capacity of the facility.
Governor Melchor Diclas thanked Yap for the newly donated machine which will help to effectively address and diagnose COVID-19 cases in Benguet and other nearby provinces. He informed that additional personnel were hired by the provincial government with augmentation from the DOH-CAR to help in the operation of the molecular laboratory.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, Yap personally funded the construction of the BeGH Molecular Laboratory building and equipment such as the RT PCR and the automated extraction machines ensure that frontliners and the people of Benguet will be tested for COVID-19.
He continues to support the frontliners and the people of Benguet by providing personal protective equipment and other needed supplies as the problem on COVID-19 remains.
Cong. Yap also turned over last April 13 one unit nasal high flow oxygen machine with consumables to the BeGH. (JDP/RMC-PIA CAR)
