The graduates received their certificates during the graduation ceremony with the theme, “Bigbigen Ballaigi” at the Layugan Gardens and Resort.
Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Ofelia Mabalot congratulated the graduates for their commitment in and support to 4Ps, the country’s flagship poverty alleviation program that provides conditional cash grants to poor families to improve the health, nutrition, and the education of their children aged 0-18.
In the context of 4Ps, graduation means a recipient- household is in transition to becoming non-poor or classified as self-sufficient household, DSWD 4Ps Abra Supervisor Rubymay Bobila said.
The 4Ps graduates shared their testimonies how this program of the government alleviated their struggles with poverty.
“I will never forget how this program has helped me because it supported my children in finishing their studies,” 4Ps beneficiary Cresencia Bragas said.
4Ps beneficiary Esteria Cada also shared how her whole family changed through the help of development sessions under the program.
“Our family relationship has improved a lot with the help of the family development sessions. With the help of this program, my child has successfully completed his secondary education”,Cada said.
Bobila, who represented Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Team Leader Carmencita Chaluyen, encouraged the graduates to continue actively supporting the program by becoming good examples to their local communities.
Bucay Mayor Victorino Baroña Jr. challenged the 4Ps graduates to prove the program critics that the cash grants given to them were not wasted. He also urged the beneficiaries to serve as “inspiration” to their communities and fellow Abrenians.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development has been implementing the 4Ps since its inception in 2008. (JDP/CAGT- PIA CAR, Abra)
