COMELEC sets special registration dates for women & girls in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY, March 8(PIA) -- The Commission on Election has set a special registration for women and girls in the City on March 9 to 11.

 

Baguio Election Officer Atty. John Paul Martin said Comelec has made this arrangement as an indulgence to women and girls in celebration of March as the National Women’s Month and March 8 as the International Women’s Day

The COMELEC chose March 9 to 11 as special days for women clients since their working days are from Tuesdays to Saturdays, while the International Women's Day which is March 8 falls on a Monday.

On March 10, Martin said they will recognize women clients by giving tokens to those who will register or avail of services at the COMELEC-Baguio. The first 15 women clients will get succulent plants or face shields or until supplies last.

They will also set up a photo booth where their clients can use after registering with the COMELEC. This also aims to promote Women’s Month celebration this anchored on the theme, “Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a COVID-19 World.”

 Martin informed that   there are more women voters than men in Baguio.There are 144,304 registered voters in Baguio and 55 percent or 79,883 of them are women.

"We have more women voters than men but the disparity lies with women in politics, that is why we encourage more women to run and serve," Martin said.

COMELEC Baguio has resumed its voter registration for the upcoming May 2022 elections with the new schedule of operations which aims to cater to more registrants.

 All types of applications for voter-related  registration from new registration of both regular and Sangguniang Kabataan, change or correction of entries (for misspelled names, wrong birth dates, wrong gender), transfer of registration record, reactivation of registration record, inclusion of registration record and reinstatement of name in the list of voters are accepted. COMELEC is also issuing Certificate of Voter's Registration.

Martin assured that the voter registration being conducted at the COMELEC office is safe as they are strictly implementing the COVID-19 minimum public health standards.  (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
