Parade for a cause benefits 14 kidney patients in Mt. Province

BONTOC, Mountain Province, April 19 (PIA) -- A total of Php98,780 collected from the “Parade for a Cause”, one of the activities in the celebration of the Women’s Day in the province, was divided equally among the 14 patients undergoing dialysis at the Bontoc General Hospital.


A minimum donation of Php30 was collected from the participants and donors. Employees from the national line agencies submitted Php47,800; Php34, 712 from provincial government employees; Php13,336 from quasi-government/non-government organizations and barangay local government of Poblacion, Bontoc and Php2,932 from other donors.

“Parade for a Cause” started in 2014 as one of the activities in celebration of Women’s Day to raise funds for those undergoing dialysis at the provincial hospital.

Provincial Health Officer II Dr. Nenita D. Lizardo disclosed that in 2014, the activity raised Php73, 055 which was divided equally among 11 patients. In 2015, a total amount of Php119,373 was collected which was used to defray the expenses of patients during their hospitalization and their dialysis.

Collection in 2016 was Php98,955 divided among 15 dialysis patients and in 2017, Php113,867 was raised and used by 16 patients.

For the period of 2014 to 2016, a minimum voluntary donation of Php20 was collected from the government employees of Bontoc municipal government, provincial local government and national line agencies; non-government organizations, people’s organizations.

The establishment of a dialysis center at the BoGH has spared kidney patients in the province of the physical rigors and the financially draining travels to Baguio City for the needed medical attention. Juliet B. Saley (EDT/JBS-PIA CAR, Mt. Province)
