AFP raises red alert status for elections

QUEZON CITY, May 11 (PIA) – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is on red alert status , AFP chief of staff General Benjamin Madrigal Jr. said on Friday.

"The AFP is on red alert status starting 8:00 am, May 10, in support to the Commission on Elections, and the Philippine National Police in the upcoming National and Local Elections," said Madrigal.

The AFP chief said the declaration ensures that all military personnel will be ready to act on emergency situations and thwart all possible threats that may arise.  

“We are ready to respond appropriately to ensure honest, orderly, and peaceful conduct of elections."
