Kalinga vet offices strengthen anti-rabies drive

The provincial  veterinaty office provides free rabies vaccination in continuing efforts to prevent  rabies  cases  in the province,


CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, Oct.  (PIA) --The Provincial and Tabuk City veterinary offices continue to strengthen their campaign against rabies   especially with  recent cases.

Dr. Godofredo Laed of the provincial veterinary office  said they   conducted ring vaccination against rabies after  dog head samples were found positive of rabies. He  bared  that nine of 14  dog head samples brought to the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Tuguegarao City from January to August  were positive of  rabies There were six from  Tabuk, two in Pinukpuk and one in Pasil. The ring  vaccination  was done  witin a 5-kilometer radius  from where the dogs with rabies originated.

The regular preventive vaccination is also being done in other municipalities simultaneous with information, education and communication on responsible dog ownership.

“We also conduct castration on male dogs and spaying on female dogs to control population of rabies carriers,” Laed said.

Meanwhile, ten poor families of a “Pumiyaan” barangay in this town  are recipients of a carabao dispersal sponsored by the Department of Agriculture and awarded through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).

Ten heads of carabaos were recently released to beneficiaries in Gaang to help them rise  from poverty through the Pumiyaan project of the provincial government. Gaang is one among selected poor barangays in the province to receive convergence of government services.

DA Secretary Emannuel Pinol during  one of his  visits to  the province committed to give animal dispersal for the Pumiyaan project. Gov. Jocel Baac endorsed to the PSWDO this initial release to identified beneficiaries. By Peter A. Balocnit  ( JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
