The DTI, in partnership with the local government unit (LGU) here, held a 5-day training for 16 members of the Hungduan Weavers Association to increase the production and marketing capacity of the members and the organization as a whole.
Only few of the members can weave as fast and as skillfully on the loom as the best of weavers. This is the reason why the DTI provides product development and skills upgrading from time to time to keep everyone capacitated and to enable them to supply the requirements of the market, Lovelyn Grace K. Cayapa of DTI Ifugao said.
The participants were able to weave two traditional and four new designs as their outputs that gained appreciation from observers and local officials.
Because they have completed the training with promising results, the four participants who are apprentices could now be counted in as full-fledged members of the Bangbang Group of Weavers, a sub-group of the Hungduan Weavers Association,” Cayapa said.
Mayor Hilario T. Bumangabang commended the participants and expressed optimism on the economic benefits the training could impact on the participants.
The mayor said that he will look into the request for the construction of a weaving center and the possibility of having this be included in the 2020 Annual Procurement Plan of the municipality. (JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
