DOLE-Ifugao assesses profiling of child laborers

LAGAWE, Ifugao, Nov. 23 (PIA)- -The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here re-assessed and re-oriented the  eight  youth  hired as interns under the Government Internship Program (GIP) last June to conduct profiling of child workers in the province.

Labor and Employment Officer Joseph Tuguinay, who is in-charge of the GIP, said the profiling of child workers is part of efforts to assess their needs and to serve as basis for the provision of  necessary interventions to get them out from child labor. This is pursuant to the Philippine Program Against Child Labor with the goal to withdraw children from child labor by 2022.

The government through the DOLE leads in the implementation of this law in line with its functions that aims   to reduce if not   eliminate the worst form of child labor.

After four months of   profiling child workers in the different towns,    the interns are re-assessed and re-oriented which is vital for the success of the project by identifying the issues and concerns they encountered during the profiling.

Some of the issues presented by the GIPs are the little stipends they receive to conduct the profiling especially when they travel to distant and mountainous places of the province, lack of data available from the different municipal government offices and the need for more human resources  to undertake the interviews and profiling covering the whole province.

With these issues and concerns, the DOLE will try to develop techniques and strategies for the 2019 child labor profiling. (JDP/DBC- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
