RDC conducts economic forum for Itogon

ITOGON, Benguet, Oct .31(PIA) -- In continuing efforts to help individuals and families to recover from the effects of Typhoon Ompong, the Cordillera Regional Development Council (RDC) Sectoral Committee on Economic Development (EconDev) recently spearheaded the conduct of   the Itogon Economic Forum here.


Department of Trade and Industry -Cordillera Regional Director Myrna Pablo said the RDC Secomg gathered  together the member- agencies and their services catering to jobs generation, trainings, scholarships, organizational development and marketing. 

DTI, with their long time partner Tiongsan Supermarket, brought the “Diskwento Caravan” where big discount of basic commodities were sold while farm products were also available thru the Department of Agriculture.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the region turned over P160, 060.16 to the City Limit Neighborhood Association of Barangay Tuding for livelihood program.

Daniel Begya Jr., is thankful for the financial support which he said will go along way for the sustenance of the association.

Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) – Benguet provincial director David Bungallon reported that a total of P2.5 million has been allotted for the training skills enhancement like practical electrical wiring,   welding, masonry and basic carpentry.

“After their training, they will receive their national certification from TESDA and we will recommend our trainees to our accredited establishments so that they will be employed”, Bungallon said.

RDC chair, Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan said the entire region is one with the people of Itogon in their challenge to become resilient and bounce back to better situation after TY Ompong.

Itogon Mayor Victorio Palangdan expressed his gratitude to the RDC for the short term/long term multi-sectoral assistance extended to the people of Itogon.

It can be recalled that Itogon suffered the most casualties and affected families due to typhoon Ompong   last September 15   largely caused by massive landslide in Ucab.

 Other agencies who joined the Economic Forum are Employment Compensation Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Center, Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Philippine Overseas Employment Agency, Social Security System, and the Philippine Information Agency. By Joseph B. Zambrano (JBZ- PIA CAR)
