DOTr launches online system for driver’s license renewal, motor plate inquiry in Benguet

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Aug. 24 (PIA) -- Drivers and operators in Baguio and Benguet will soon enjoy ease of doing business with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) – Cordillera with the launching last week of internet-based system for driver’s license renewal and plate inquiry.

Newly appointed DOTr-Cordillera Regional Director Robert Santiago, Land Transportation Office -Benguet Chief Arsenio Bagtang and STRADCOM Regional Coordinator Philip Jose Perez with La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda and Councilor Renato Tereng led the launching of the online PASS (Personal Appointment and Scheduling System) and MV (Motor Vehicle) Character Plate inquiry at the LTO-Benguet on August 17.

Santiago said that new system is an innovation by the STRADCOM, its information technology provider, basically to help citizens to have an accessible, easier and faster transaction with the use of the internet.

The online PASS and the MV Plate Inquiry systems will allow the public to conveniently and securely set an appointment for renewal of driver’s license and for inquiring about unissued license plates.

Santiago said that it is about time to make use of the new technology to provide better services to the clients. He said that this system will lessen the queuing at the LTO district offices in Baguio City and Benguet where it is piloted for the Cordillera region.

More importantly, it removes possible instances of corruption in the process since there will be less human intervention during the transactions, he said.

“The DOTr wants to show the public and let them feel the change in the government which was vowed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade,” Santiago said.

Santiago assured that with the new leadership of the DOTr in the Cordillera, clients will get effective, efficient and fast delivery of services.

He shared that he requested the IT administrator of the DOTr-CAR to create an online based system where clients can send their inquiries on the services of the agency and complaints to the personnel or its law enforcers, as well as good deeds which will be given immediate action.

Salda commended the DOTr and its IT provider for adapting a technology that would lessen the burden of the transport sector.

“On line services and processing is very important at this time. As public servants, we should not burden clients in processing their documents and needs; we should do everything to make it as convenient and efficient to the public,” Salda said.

For the online transactions, clients should visit the LTO website, www.LTO.gov.ph where details for the Driver’s License Renewal or motor vehicle plate inquiry are provided. Redjie Melvic Cawis (JDP/RMC & Deborah Aquino- PIA-CAR/ UC Intern)
