Apayao records six COVID-19 cases on Independence Day

LUNA, Apayao, June 12(PIA) --  Governor Eleanor Bulut-Begtang appeals to all residents of Apayao to stay safe at home and strictly observe social distancing and  prescribed health protocols while maintaining calm and order as the province of recorded six new COVID-19 positive cases on Independence Day.

Before 12 noon today, Begtang reported two new COVID-19 cases, both male, aged 27 and 82 and residents of Pudtol and Santa Marcela respectively. They are in stable condition.

In the afternoon,the Department of Health confirmed four more positive cases - two from Luna town and other two from Santa Marcela.    

The governor immediately ordered the conduct of aggressive contact tracing to be undertaken by the Contact Tracing Teams in the province 
The municipalities of Luna, Santa Marcela and Pudtol are  placed under temporary lockdown, and strict monitoring of individuals going in and out of the municipalities is mandated. 
“The Provincial Government, in cooperation with concerned national government agencies and municipal government units, is doing everything to prevent further transmission of the virus in our province of Apayao,” Begtang said.
“We reiterate our call for everyone to strictly stay at home while we undertake necessary actions to prevent the further transmission of the disease in the province,” she added.

Apayao now has a total of seven COVID-19 cases. The province’s first case confirmed last June 1 is   health worker from Conner who recovered in just four days. (JDP/RMC- PIA- CAR)

    BAGUIO CITY, July 10 (PIA) - - The Department of Social and Welfare and Development affirms that assistance to senior citizens remains to be a priority in this time of COVID-19 pandemic. 

    DSWD – CAR Assistant Regional for Operations Amelyn Cabrera, in the online Kapihan Sa Baguio media forum here, reported that social pension for the first semester of this year has already been released to 88,959 senior citizens in Cordillera who are enrolled in the program.  A total of P266, 877,000 has already been disbursed covering their stipends for January up to June.    

    The senior citizens  who  received their social pension include 21,070 are from Abra; 9,809 in Apayao; 1,777 in Baguio City; 18,625 in Benguet; 14,555 in Ifugao; 13,759 in Kalinga and 9,305 in Mountain Province.

    Under the DSWD Social Pension Program, enlisted beneficiaries are entitled to P500 stipend per month to augment their subsistence and other medical needs.  

    Cabrera  also disclosed that  to date, there are also 29 centenarians (100 - years old) in Cordillera that have already received P100,000 cash grant each from DSWD pursuant to the Centenarian Act of 2016. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
