In partnership with the Extension Office and the College of Health Sciences (UNP-CHS) of the University of Northern Philippines (UNP)-Vigan City, a total of 157 barangay officials including the members and volunteers of MDRRMC underwent a 2-day Basic Life Support and Advanced First Aid Training.
With the aid of Bart De Peralta, University DRRM coordinator from the College of Nursing and the paramedics of UNP-CHS, the participants were equipped with skills on basic life support such as the proper administration cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) technique, bandaging, splinting, transporting and stretcher handling. These particular skills enable them to attend to their own emergency needs at any time and whatever kind of calamity that may occur.
Dolores LDRRM Officer,Engr. Lourdes Bejarin, stated that as a refresher course, the basic life support training is necessary in any and all forms of calamities, be it an earthquake, water or fire in nature.
These are deemed necessary with Dolores, just beside the Abra River which easily swells during typhoons and residents along the riverbanks particularly in Brgy. Mudiit were often trapped during calamities.
Meanwhile, De Peralta stated that they will continue supporting the LGU by conducting lecture-fora on teenage pregnancy and HIV/AIDS awareness among Dolores High School students tentatively for the month January. (JDP/MTBB/CAGT -PIA CAR, Abra)
