The Social Security System (SSS) Bangued Branch staff led by Manager Edward Urua urged the Barangay Nutrition Scholars during the SSS Forum held back-to-back with the BNS Congress 2018 at the Oval Gymnasium, in Bangued on July 19.
Urua and his staff took the opportunity to present the programs of SSS and the advantages of being a member after learning from Ms. Diane Joaquin of the National Nutrition Council – Cordillera (NNC-CAR) that the BNS are not covered by insurance such as the Government Service Insurance System and PhilHealth.
Urua emphasized the benefits a member gets from SSS from womb to tomb since SSS programs include maternity benefits, sickness, retirement pension, funeral, and even death benefits for the family members left behind. There are also loans such as salary loans, educational, calamity and housing loans that the member can avail while still in active service.
Informed about the benefits SSS offers to its members, the BNS expressed interest in becoming members to secure their families and their future.
The BNS can use their annual honorarium of P1, 200.00 from the NNC that is equivalent to P100.00 per month. However, this is not enough to defray the minimum monthly contribution of P110.00 that is why the BNS are contemplating of asking local officials to augment their limited honorarium to be able to become SSS members.
The BNS have expressed their desire to request financial support from Congressman Joseph Sto. Niño B. Bernos and Governor Ma. Jocelyn V. Bernos so they could become members of the SSS, a well-deserved benefit as a consolation for their voluntary services to the people in their barangays. (PIA Abra)
