BFP opens fire station in Abra town

SALLAPADAN, Abra, April 11(PIA) -- The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and local government unit can now hope for a fire- safe ready community with the inauguration of the new fire sub-station that can provide immediate response to its nine barangays.


Most Rev. Leopoldo C. Jaucian, S.V.D, blessed the building.  Sallapadan Mayor Nenita Cardenas, Gov. Maria Jocelyn V. Bernos, BFP-Cordillera Assistant Regional Director for Administration Joeffrey Gano and Abra BFP Provincial Fire Marshal, FSUPT Alex Testado led the ribbon cutting for the formal opening of the station.

The municipal government donated the lot where the station was constructed as its counterpart.

The newly opened fire station will be manned by SFO2Marlo Domingo with his other seven on-call Firefighters.

Cardenas expressed her hope that the firefighters can now deliver fire protection services to the people more effectively.

BFP-Abra Information Officer- designate Anne Barreras said that BFP-Abra looks forward to establishing operational fire stations in all towns of the province these coming years.

Moreover, BFP-Abra Fire Marshal Testado reported that they are having an engagement with barangay local government units regarding BFP’s “Oplan Ligtas na Pamayanan” program, which seeks to establish fire prevention initiatives at the grassroots level.

BFP’s mandate does not only focus on fire prevention, but also to capacitate barangay officials in responding to disasters and other kinds of emergencies, towards the end goal of ensuring disaster resilient communities, he said. (JDP/MTBB/CAGT-PIA CAR, Abra)
