Role of home cited in proper nutrition

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga Aug. 2(PIA) -- Claiming everything starts at home, City Mayor Ferdinand B. Tubban stressed children should acquire education on the right nutrition in the home.

As basic unit of society, the family needs to include in the chores practices on food production, preparation of proper diet and healthy lifestyle, Tubban said during the culmination of Nutrition Month celebration with the theme ‘Ugaliing Magtanim Sapat na Nutrisyon Aanihin’ here.

On food production, Tubban recalled how early families meet food requirement through backyard gardens and livestock production which he sees is still applicable today.

He called on parents to also teach their children in food preparation as way to shun them away from junk foods.

Because children do not know about the correct food they should eat, they use to grab junk foods every time they get hungry, he said.

‘With this, we do not only allow them to eat wrong foods but also allow them contribute in causing environmental problems from littered plastic wrappers’, Tubban noted.

Proper nutrition is always accompanied by healthy lifestyle, the mayor said as he called on parents to be models in their homes by leading healthy habits.

The city culminated this year’s Nutrition Month celebration through literary contest, draw and tell, well baby, slogan and poster making, infomercial and hataw.   (PIA CAR)
