Tabuk City PWDs observes Nat’l Disability Prevention and Rehab Week

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, July 27(PIA) --Persons with disability (PWDs) of the city got a treat in celebration of this year’s National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week here.

The ladies were provided free beauty care while the men got free haircut. They also received free dental service and medicines from the Philippine Army based in the province.

The City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO) prepared abilympics, funfare and literary events to highlight the week-long observance that opened last July 24 with the theme, “Karapatan at Kahusayan sa Kabuhayan Tungo sa Kaunlaran”.

City Mayor Ferdinand B. Tubban considers PWDs as inspiration to people of the city because of their personal achievements.

Physical disabilities really do not hinder anyone from getting at par if not even better than persons without disability for as long as they are committed to become achievers, Tubban stressed.

Data shows there are 1,227 registered PWDs in the city.

Grace Oyando of the CSWDO   informed that as a regular support to PWDs, the city government extends P3, 000 hospitalization cash aid to qualified beneficiaries and P500 monthly social pension to bed-ridden PWDs and those with cerebral palsy.

Organized PWDs are also listed among the beneficiary-groups of the Self-employment Assistance para sa Kaunlaran (SEA-K) program for livelihood assistance. (PIA Kalinga)
