PIA-Kalinga takes ASEAN in barangay general assembly

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, Oct. 13 (PIA) -- The Philippine Information Agency provincial information center elaborated on topics about the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the October 8 second semester nationwide synchronized barangay general assembly day here.


In the second city showcase barangay event hosted by Barangay Tuga, the PIA speaker talked about the three pillars of ASEAN - ASEAN Political-Security Community, ASEAN Economic Community and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.

Other topics elaborated include history of ASEAN, people, territory and the implication of ASEAN to the ten-member nations covering the areas on international trade, employment, education, travel, security, preservation of natural resources, health, and human rights.

Meanwhile, Police Provincial Director P/SSupt Alfredo Dangani talked on President Rodrigo Duterte’s marching orders to the police against illegal drugs and illegal gambling and the internal cleansing of the entire police organization.

As peace keepers, Dangani explained to the assembly the police’s mission is to enforce the law without fear and favor, and prevent and control crimes and maintain peace.

City Local Government Operation Officer Mediatrix Alinio explained about Republic Act 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991 mandating the holding of barangay assembly twice a year every last Saturday of March (first semester) and second Sunday of October (second semester).

Barangay assemblies are held where the barangay chairmen deliver the State of Barangay Address reporting about their programs, projects, finance and budget in line with the principle of transparency, accountability and good governance.

This year’s theme: “Nagkakaisang Barangay Lakas ng Kampanya Kontra sa Illigal na Droga, Krimen at Katiwalian: Makialam! Makilahok! Makiisa!” showcases President Duterte’s crusade against illegal drugs, crime and corruption. Larry Lopez (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
