DOLE assists Kalinga rattan-bamboo weavers group

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, Oct. 5 (PIA) -- The Association of Nambaran Rattan Bamboo Basketry Weaving (ASNARABBAW) is the latest recipient of financial assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) provincial office.

 

Anthony Luminang of DOLE said their office released P385,223 last October 3 to the association for its handicraft weaving industry development project. The group is composed of 50 members - 46 males and 4 females, all based in Nambaran this city.

He said the livelihood project is supported by the availability of vast raw materials like rattan and bamboo and non-timber resources in the barangays of upper Tabuk and nearby Apayao province.

Finished products will be distributed to Negosyo centers and Pasalubong centers of the Department of Trade and Industry and that of the provincial government for sale.

The project aims to generate employment and income for members; improve the bamboo and rattan products through technology and training, make members more productive; generate revenues for the LGU and help improve the socio-economic status of members. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga)

BAGUIO CITY  – The preservation and promotion of culture and arts in the city got an added boost following the filing of a proposed ordinance creating the Baguio City Culture and the Arts Council in support of the plan of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cordillera Regional Development Council (RDC-CAR) to establish said councils to allow access to financial and technical assistance from the Commission.
