Upper Kalinga DPWH builds more flood controls

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, Aug. 16 (PIA) - - The newly created Upper Kalinga District Engineering Office  is  determined to  improve more roads  and build  more flood controls and water systems in  the uplands of this province.

With approved budget of P1.3 billion for the fiscal year 2017, Assistant District Engineer Teodoro Owek said their office has already released P496 million for flood control projects.

Owek informed that they are concreting the remaining gaps along the Kalinga-Abra road. He reported 75 percent accomplishment on the more than one-kilometer gap in Pantikian, Balbalan section costing P88 million.

Work is also ongoing in the less than a kilometer gap in Balantoy section in the same municipality costing P25 million.

He assured that concreting of these gaps will be completed end of December this year. The only problem he said is the abandoned contract for the Ableg-Balinciagao section which the DPWH is seeking its termination for re-awarding.

Owek also reported that the P5 M water system project in Pasil is on-going while that of Lubuagan is on the planning stage.

Of the 11 flood control projects amounting to a total appropriation of P121M, one is completed located at the Upper Bunog stream in Tinglayan while 10 are on-going implementation mostly in Balbalan.

One-storey school buildings are scheduled for bidding in September. Procurement is on-going for site exploration, he added. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
