Kalinga wins big in regional agri awards

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, July 4(PIA) - - Kalinga  province   is the undisputed    winner  romping away  13  out of 39  awards during the 2017 Regional Agriculture Achievers Awarding Ceremony held  last week  in  Baguio City.

 

Kalinga garnered five awards in the Gawad Saka category -  Honorio Clemencia as Outstanding Farmer Adopting Integrated Rice-based Farming System; Grace Agtina as Outstanding Agriculture Entrepreneur for going to macro-business starting from coffee enterprise; Jonard Manzano as Outstanding Young Farmer; Calaocan Farmers Association as Outstanding Farmers Organization and   the Bantay Rural Improvement Club as Outstanding RIC (rural improvement club).

Under the Rice Achievers category, Kalinga was named outstanding province while Tanggal Small Water Impounding Dam Association was named  Outstanding Small Water Impounding System Association. Five extension workers were awarded outstanding in their field namely Jose Casibang, Nazel Juan, Evelyn Orsit, Rowena Gonnay, and the late Silvano Ignacio as outstanding barangay-based local farmer technician.

Rowena Gonnay was again awarded as Outstanding Extension Worker under Organic Agriculture category.

As champion province, Kalinga received a 4WD tractor worth P2.5 million plus P500, 000.00 project prize.

Agriculture Extension worker-awardees were given cash award ranging from P20, 000 to P30, 000 plus P10, 000 worth of gadgets and plaque.

Group awards got P50, 000.00 each except for Tanggal SWIP association that brought home P500, 000.00 worth of project.

Acting Gov. James Edduba congratulated the awardees from Kalinga saying “you really made Kalinga very proud with your achievements”
