CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, June 16 (PIA) - - Department of Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano on Thursday distributed 195 Certificate of Land Ownership Award (CLOA) to 222 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARB) tilling 83 hectares of rice lands in this province.

The ARBs are from Lubuagan, Pinukpuk, Balbalan and this city who waited for so long to have their piece of land titled under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program   as a guarantee of ownership of the source of food for their families.

Mariano together with Undersecretary Sylvia Mallari also turned over P137 million worth of projects to ARCs in Rizal, Pasil and Tinglayan.

 These are the Bulo Communal Irrigation Project (CIP) costing P6 million; Bulo Pump CIP – P4.4M; Pangul CIP – P3.9M; Pangul Pump CIP – P3.8M; Macutay-San Quintin-Liwan East Farm-to-Market Road (FMR) – P35M; Bugnay-Buscalan-Butbut FMR – P43.5M; Balinciagao Communal Irrigation System – P13.6M and  Cagaluan-Ableg FMR – P27M.

Said FMRs will reduce travel time of commuters and pave way for the fast transport of local goods to the market.

On irrigation projects, the Balinciagao CIP funded under the 3rd Agrarian Reform Infrastructure Support Project or ARISP-III is benefitting 120 ARBs of barangay Balinciagao Norte in Pasil.

With the completion of the project, farmers started opening new areas for rice production. Rice yield increased from 3MT to 4MT per hectare.

Some farmers engaged in gardening while others started developing orchards. Farmers are now harvesting vegetables from their gardens. Peter A. Balocnit (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
