The eight-foot art piece patterned to a drop of blood plasma with hallowed middle that portrays the frontliners for all their sacrifices in the battle against the coronavirus disease, stands at the Rizal Park below the city hall.
Inscribed at the bottom of the sculpture reads, “Behold the modern day heroes, dressed in white, in camouflage, in all colors, braving against the unseen enemy , saving lives of humanity.”
The art piece was crafted by internationally-awarded Cordilleran sculptor Gilbert “Bergano” Alberto. It took him three months to finish the art work. that was unveiled last Feb. 15.
'I am asking everyone to appreciate and respect the art work because it is dedicated to our dear frontliners, who are risking their lives to protect us from Covid-19,' he said.
The project is a collaboration between the City Government and the Society of Outstanding Citizens of Baguio (SOCOB).
SOCOB member Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda said they recognize the work and selfless sacrifices of the front liners and and they thought of honoring them with an artwork.
The SOCOB conducts the annual search for outstanding citizens to be awarded during the Baguio Charter Day on September 1, but last year they decided to forgo the search because of the pandemic . Instead they opted to erect a marker as a tribute to the frontliners. (JDP/JBZ PIA CAR)
