City Health Officer Dr. Rowena Galpo said that the simulation activity aimed to test the city's preparedness for the actual vaccination rollout in terms of efficiency of the systems and processes under the vaccination action plan.
For this vaccination simulation activity, 24 health workers were invited to be the vaccine recipients. The process which includes registration, counselling, screening and actual vaccination must be done in 17 minutes per the vaccination action plan of the City Government. The process also includes a 30 minutes to 1 - hour observation time with a medical team stationed to monitor possible adverse effect after immunization and with emergency transportation on standby, if there is a need to bring a person in the hospital.
The City HSO earlier conducted a simulation for the deployment of the vaccines from the City Heath Services Office going to the UB Gymnasium vaccination area.
For the Baguio Vaccination Action Plan, the UB Gymnasium through the supportive management of the university is the designated mega – site while the five Baguio hospitals and 16 district health centers are the identified other vaccination sites in the city.
A mock scenario was also conducted on how fast can the emergency teams bring a person to the three designated hospitals in the city namely, the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, the Notre Dame De Chartres Hospital and the Saint Louis University Hospital, which clocked less than three minutes.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong expressed gratitude to the HSO and its partners for the undertaking. He encouraged them to be consistent with the conduct of simulations, accept constructive observations and make it a learning experience to ensure that all gaps and challenges can be addressed in time for the actual rollout of the city vaccination action plan.
Magalong has assured that the city government and its partners from the private sectors are all set to support the National Vaccination and Deployment Plan and the goal of protecting majority of the city’s population against COVID – 19 starting with the IATF – identified priority groups.
