The DILG Baguio Field Office, in partnership with the City Government through the Office of Mayor Benjamin Magalong and the Baguio City Police Office, conducted a week – long (January 18 – 22) road and side walk anti – obstruction assessment and validation.
The DILG required all the city’s 128 barangays to do simultaneous road clearing and all barangay officials must be present during the activity.
DILG Baguio Director Evelyn Trinidad said the activity was aimed to validate the status reports of barangays on the roads and sidewalks in their areas of responsibility. This is also in preparation for the national assessment and validation.
Trinidad reminded barangay officials that it is their mandate to clear road and sidewalk obstructions in their respective AOR and it must be a regular activity and not only during inspection activities of the city or the national government.
Magalong said the city government is continuously exerting more efforts in clearing road right of way of structures and obstruction especially in major thoroughfares like what was implemented in Marcos Highway and Naguilian road.
The simultaneous road clearing activity aims to give emphasis to the barangay officials and the Baguio people that clearing roads and sidewalks of obstruction must be a continuing effort and though it may be challenging needs to be implemented, as it is a national guideline of the President and the DILG, Magalong added.
Resumption of DILG – led national road clearing activities resumed this week after it was suspended for several months last year after the implementation of strict community quarantines due to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID – 19).
Under the directive of DILG Secretary Eduardo Año road clearing operations will vary in different degrees depending on the quarantine classification of a certain area and strict compliance to the minimum health standards must always be a priority during operations.
Full implementation of Road Clearing operation will be enforced in areas under the Modified General Community Quarantine and partial implementation will be implemented in GCQ areas, while it will continue to be suspended on Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and in modified ECQ areas.
