Avoid 3Cs, social/cultural gatherings as cases rise, DOH CAR iterates

BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 23 (PIA) -- The Department of Health Center for Health and Development Cordillera reminds the public anew to strictly comply with the minimum health standards and to avoid the 3Cs (Crowded Places, Close settings and Confined Spaces) and the conduct of social and cultural gatherings as COVID – 19 cases continue to rise in the region.

Based on the DOH – CAR January 21 report, Cordillera is “under High Risk” epidemic level with a 2 – week growth rate of 199 percent or an increase of 1,401 from the 705 cases in the Dec. 24, 2020 to January 6, 2021 period to 2,811 in Jan. 7 – 20; and an Average Daily Attack Rate of 8.32 per 100,000 population.

The same report shows that Kalinga and Mountain Province are on critical risk while Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao and Baguio City are on high risk level. Abra is under moderate risk.

There are also municipalities under critical epidemic level based on the 2WGR and ADAR, namely: Atok, Itogon, Kapangan and Mankayan in Benguet; Hungduan and Kiangan in Ifugao; Balbalan, Lubuagan, Pasil, Rizal, Tabuk City and Tanudan in Kalinga, and Besao, Bontoc, Sabangan and Sadanga in Mountain Province.

Aside from the rising cases, DOH – CAR   noted clustering of cases in some areas where the   3Cs are present such as in mining camps, department stores, malls, schools and health settings. Other observed causes   are the mobility of cases and cultural practices of the community.

The DOH-CAR reported that people’s disregard  or breach of the minimum health protocols remains to be the usual cause of COVID – 19 transmission. Especially during the holidays,  non – observance of quarantine/isolation protocol, non-use of face mask and face shield and attendance to social gatherings  such as wakes,  family gatherings, reunions,  gambling, drinking spree and church events were noticed.

As of January 21 data of DOH – CAR, there 10,582 COVID – 19 cases recorded in Cordillera, where 1,687 (15.94 percent) are active, 8,752 (82.71%) already recovered and 140 (1.32%) died.

DOH Cordillera Regional Director  Ruby Constantino reiterated the   importance of everyone   strictly adhering  to the minimum health standards and safety protocols to protect oneself, the family and the community from COVID  while  government is working hard for the soonest implementation of the National Vaccination and Deployment Plan to help prevent further transmission.
