“Hindi naman ganoon kalaki ang honorarium naming mga barangay workers kaya malaking tulong ito sa amin, lalo na sa darating na pasko,” Elizabeth Rivera, a barangay worker, said as she expressed her excitement for the aid she held.
This assistance from the provincial government is one way of recognizing the efforts and services of frontliners in the barangays who worked tirelessly since the start of the pandemic.
It’s indeed a merry Christmas for barangay frontliners in Ilocos Norte as they were given Christmas packages, cash assistance, and special gifts from the provincial government.
Rivera is among the 17,500 barangay frontliners from the province, consisting of barangay officials, Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs), Barangay Health Workers, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, and other barangay volunteers who were given packs of noche Buena, a frontliner shirt, and P1,000 cash assistance. This also includes replenishment of medicine supply for each barangay to keep them protected this Christmas season while coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues to threaten.

The first batch of beneficiaries were frontliners from Brgy. Poblacion in Burgos, Brgy. Davila in Pasuquin, Brgy. Lubnac in Vintar, Brgy. Gabut Norte in Badoc, Brgy. Nagbacalan in Paoay, Brgy. Baay in Batac City, and Brgy San Lorenzo in San Nicolas.
“We want to encourage you to keep the protection of our people especially this Christmas sason. For sure, many people will want to gather, so let’s continue to practice ‘yong pag-limit ng gatherings,” Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc said during the gift-giving.
He also urged them to guide residents in keeping the community COVID-19 free to avoid lockdown situations when cases suddenly rise.
“Kung hindi tayo mag-ingat, baka pagdating ng January o February next year, naka-lockdown tayo dahil sa mga kaso. Mag-ingat po tayo para tuluy-tuloy ang ekonomiya at trabaho natin,” the governor continued and ended his message by wishing them a merry and safe Christmas celebration.
