During the cabinet meeting at the Tuguegarao City Airport, Tugade suggested to President Rodrigo Duterte to mandate those in the transport sector to contribute in the reforestation program of the government.
“We saw that the mountains here are already deforested. Illegal logging should be stopped and we will focus more on reforestation programs,” Tugade said.
He also said dredging of the Cagayan River is also needed as it is already heavily silted which causes immediate swelling of the river during rainy seasons and whenever there are typhoons that hit the region.
Tugade also said the government will be distributing 100 units of fiber glass fishing boats in the coastal towns of the region who were also affected by the series of typhoons that affected Northern Luzon area.
“These fiber glass boats will not only be used in fishing but it can also be used for rescue operations,” Tugade said.
DOTr will partner with the Department of Labor and Employment to produce the needed number of fishing boats to be distributed before the year ends. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
