Mayor Gaspar Chilagan, Jr. explained that hog mortalities continue to rise in such proportions that would require urgent, immediate and drastic measures to stop and prevent the spread of ASF and safeguard the municipality’s swine industry as well as the public.
Executive Order No. 2020-38 issued by Chilagan also stated that social gatherings in the barangays involving the butchering of pigs is allowed but confined only in said barangay, provided that pigs must have been checked and declared healthy by the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO).
The visiting technicians of private companies assisting hog raisers in the municipality are not allowed. Unless necessary, technicians must coordinate with the MAO for any referral or query of hog raisers.
The MAO and barangays officials are also ordered to implement the 1-7-10 protocol to manage and control ASF from spreading. The 1-7-10 protocol means that in a one-kilometer radius from the site of infection or ground zero, hogs will be prohibited from entering or leaving the area, and the site is be eventually depopulated.
