DepEd–CAR all set for 399,039 learners for Oct. 5 class opening

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Sept. 27 (PIA) - - The Department of Education - Cordillera (DepEd – CAR) reports that 399,039 learners are enrolled for the 2020 – 2021 school year  in  the region, lesser by 13.62 percent compared to the 461,935 enrollees last year.


Of the total enrolled learners in Cordillera, 28,260 are enrolled in Kinder, 193,443 in elementary, 124,062 in Junior High School, 44,742 in Senior High School, 7,979 in Alternative Learning System (ALS) and 555 are non – graded or learners with disabilities.

DepEd – CAR Regional Director May Eclar reported this during the Kapihan Media Forum at their regional office here on Wednesday, wherein she was joined by Assistant Regional Director Florante Vergara, other division chiefs and the School District Supervisors of Baguio City and Tabuk City and the provinces of Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Kalinga, Ifugao and Mountain Province, to affirm their readiness and to give updates on their preparations for the October 5 opening of classes.

Eclar said   DepEd – CAR is all set for the implementation of the region’s Learning Continuity Operation Plan where blended learning include modular, online (internet), radio – based and television – based instructions.

For the provinces, Abra will use   modular and radio – based instruction; Apayao will have an audio/visual instructions; Benguet will utilize a modular, TV and Radio – based instruction with online delivery as a complementary while Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province will implement modular learning instructions.

For Baguio City, it will   be a blend of modular, TV and Radio – based instruction with online delivery as complementary.

Tabuk City will blend modular, online, TV and Radio – based instruction, Eclar shared.

The DepEd – CAR Regional Office also established a Youtube channel, “DamiKnow” to support the blended distance learning delivery. It will also serve as access point in repository of locally – developed and quality – assured learning resources in audio and video format.

A Plan Balik – Eskwela Tool was also developed, not only to ensure effective assessment on the readiness of schools but also in certifying that health protocols are strictly adhered to the safety and well – being of stakeholders.

In support to the preparations of the eight school division offices and public schools in Cordillera, the regional office spearheaded several relevant activities wherein primary attention was focused on adherence to health protocols needed in relation to the COVID pandemic, Eclar added.

For her message to DepEd – CAR family on the opening of classes amid the COVID pandemic, Eclar said , “As we continue our journey may we never lose sight and get tired of our aspiration and vision, all leading towards equitable and safe learning opportunities for all Cordilleran learners whose future we hold so dear”.(JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
