Baguio officials call for united front for city dev't amid COVID

BAGUIO CITY, Sept. 3 (PIA) - - Mayor Benjamin Magalong and Congressman Mark Go enjoin the support and cooperation of every stakeholder for the city’s recovery and to bring back Baguio to the path of development amid the continuing threat of the Coronavirus diseases (COVID – 19) pandemic. 

Mayor Benjamin Magalong, in his State of the City Address, reports the accomplishment of the City Government, the effects of COVID - 19 and the infection control and management efforts being implemented, and the path to redevelopment that Baguio will undertake, despite the continuing threat of the pandemic. Magalong, in his State of the City Address during the 111th Baguio Day celebration on Tuesday (Sept. 1),   said that Baguio City in 2019 was very much on track on its development targets with a surplus on target income, prestigious awards received, improved and enhanced business processes and with more programs and projects funded, implemented and on the pipeline to further improve public service delivery. Until the COVID pandemic that started early this year which brought some setback in the city government’s initiatives.

Magalong said amid the continuing threat of the health crisis, the city remains afloat and with the good governance brand of leadership guided by the 15 – point agenda and the support of every stakeholder, the city will overcome the challenges and will continue towards its goal of bringing in a better Baguio, a desirable state that offers the quality of life and decent life that each and everyone deserves.

“The 15 - point agenda is my contract with you. A contract that is a clear and palpable agreement between each and every one of you and me.”  

“There will be no turning back from what has been started: to build back Baguio in far better ways, more so under extraordinary times but let it be emphasized that we will continue to rely on our collective spirit of unity and cooperation,” Magalong said.

We are not working for a small change; we are targeting for an unprecedented change. A change that through genuine leadership and with your cooperation and thrust, we come together, to work together, to heal together and to build this city together”, he added.

Go, in his message, assured the best legislative support he can give as he also called for a united front in moving towards a better, the best Baguio.

“Baguio is not just a place. It is our home. It is where our hearts rest. Let us not be selfish with her bounty because we cannot own the earth much more of its spirit.”

Let us continue to build on the best Baguio has to offer and address what we have to fix and solve. Let us get out of our complaints and apathy. The future of Baguio is up to you and me. After all it is a simple choice of whether to safeguard or destroy. I chose to safeguard Baguio and I invite you to join me”, Go stressed.
