The PSA administers the Census of Population and Housing which is undertaken every five years, in coordination with the provincial, municipal, barangay local governments and concerned agencies. The census aims to provide government executives, policy makers, and planners with population and housing data as guide to social and economic development plans, policies and programs.
PSA Baguio-Benguet Provincial Statistics Officer Imelda Buyuccan seeks the cooperation of everybody to support the enumerators, team supervisors and census area supervisors who will be going to households to ask some information for the census.
She appeals to residents to give honest and appropriate information. Among the information to be asked are the size and geographical distribution of the population, population composition such as sex, age, marital status, education and literacy, birth registration, religion ethnicity, and functional difficulty.
Buyuccan said the census will be administered through face-to-face interview, but she assured that minimum health protocols will be strictly adhered by the enumerators and supervisors. They will be wearing personal protective equipment such as face mask, face shield and carrying disinfectants, and they will have a certification that they are COVID-19-free. While conforming to social or physical distancing, the members of the team are not also allowed to enter homes, she added.
The administration of the census is set from September 1-29, but Buyuccan explained that if there is an imposition of lockdown due to contact tracing of COVID-19 cases in an area within scheduled period, they have to postpone until such time that it is lifted for the safety of the team and the households.
Governor Melchor Diclas also seeks the the cooperation and participation of the populace during the duration of the census to determine the increase in population which will be needed by the government. He also calls on everyone’s cooperation in responding appropriately and honestly in order to get the real number of people in an area which will be used by the government for resource allocation.
