'Hatid Tulong' program to resume after MECQ

CALOOCAN CITY, Aug. 11 (PIA) -- The government’s Hatid Tulong program will resume after the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) has been lifted in Metro Manila, an official said today.

During Tuesday’s Network Briefing News on Radyo Pilipinas, Hatid Tulong Convener and Presidential Management Staff Assistant Secretary Joseph Encabo said once the program resumes its service of providing free transportation to locally stranded individuals (LSIs) in Metro Manila, they will be implementing pocket send-offs depending on the request of local government units (LGUs).

The official said they would work closely with LGUs to identify and better manage the number of LSIs to bring home in order to ensure proper physical distancing.

“In the past week, we took advantage of this MECQ sa pag-coordinate at pakikipag-ugnayan ng technical working group sa mga LGUs.

He said Hatid Tulong already coordinated with the LGUs of various provinces and they have expressed their willingness to accept their stranded constituents.

To recall, the implementation of stricter 15-day MECQ over Metro Manila and nearby provinces to curb the surge of COVID-19 infections is set to expire on Aug. 18. (PIA NCR)
