The Department of Education (DepEd) – Benguet has come up with a canned video resource material on promoting mental health for learners in crisis situation.
Dubbed as “Project SAGANA,” DepEd-Benguet released its first episode, Coping and Adapting to the “new normal”, which may be accessed on DepEd Tayo Benguet Facebook Page and Youtube in Ibaloi, Kankana-ey and Ilokano versions.
Sagana is a local term for being alert and ready. It reflects the Benguet community’s resiliency, endurance and perseverance amidst crisis.
The production is a three to five-minuter video clip on mental health information and practical tips that provides practical information and helpful tips on strengthening learner’s well being, resiliency and mental health in the light of COVID-19 pandemic.
Youth Formation Coordinator Kenneth Kelcho said the project sends a warning to community and its people to prepare not only during the COVID-19 pandemic being experienced now but in any crisis situation.
Kelcho said the project was initiated due to the quite alarming reports regarding mental health concerns of students although there are no figures consolidated yet. The material hopes to target not only learners but parents to assist their children such that if manifestations of different behavior are observed, parents should not resort to scolding them but instead be alerted, he said.
The video also helps parents exercise their parenting skills in encouraging their wards to do continuous learning and become productive.
DepEd hopes that through the production of information materials, it would educate and reach out learners.
Other video production materials on mental health of the department are on the pipeline. (JDP/SCA-PIA CAR, Benguet)
