In a statement, Mayor Samuel Parilla said IS-C13 is a 57-year-old male, residing in an apartment at Barangay III and working as a security guard at BDO Quezon Avenue Branch in Vigan City.
Mayor Parilla said the patient is asymptomatic and with no travel history.
A private entity hired by the bank company conducted a rapid test to the patient and his co-workers on July 18, 2020 where he turned out positive.
“We regret to note, and much to our dismay, that our local government unit was not immediately informed of said result. It took a week before we were informed and it was only when his confirmatory swab test result was released on July 24, 2020,” Parilla said.
He added, “Otherwise, we could have taken all preventive measures and imposed necessary protocols right from that instance the rapid test result came out. I reiterate that time is of the essence in order to effectively contain the spread of the virus.”
The local chief executive already ordered the imposition of extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ) to the patient’s residence and its immediate vicinity, identified as critical zone and the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) and general community quarantine (GCQ) to other parts of Barangay III serving as containment zone and buffer zone respectively, effective July 24 to August 7, 2020 unless otherwise extended for compelling reason.
He said, “The Contact Tracing Team of Bantay already commenced tracing of establishments and of people that the patient may have come in contact from the time the rapid test was out.”
Parilla earnestly asked the public to notify and disclose to the Municipal Health Office any further information that will help them resolve the situation.
“I assure the Bantayenos that the local government of Bantay is on top of the situation and we are doing all efforts to contain and manage this situation and to ensure the health and security of all,” he said.
He implored everyone to religiously follow health protocols to stay safe amid this pandemic. (JCR/AMB/PIA Ilocos Sur)By April M. Bravo
