DOH – CAR OIC Regional Director Dr. Amelita Pangilinan, in the Kapihan sa Baguio media forum Thursday, encourages people to remain vigilant and set their minds on disease prevention while the country strategically balances health and economic objectives in dealing with the COVID pandemic that remains to be in our midst.

“We have to treat this COVID – 19 pandemic as part of our lives and accept the fact that it has gained part of our environment. Observe discipline, obedience to authorities and observe the minimum health standards required. All must stay vigilant and on the defense at all times to protect ourselves, our family and our community,” Pangilinan stressed.

There is  slowly increasing trend of cases being recorded  in the region which reflects that the present system is responsive to the expanded and risk – based testing with capable facilities in place, she  reported.

As of July 16 data of DOH – CAR, there are 143 confirmed cases in the region  with 28  admitted in hospitals, 113 already recovered and  two recorded deaths. Of the 28 active cases, two are from Abra, four from Apayao, nine from Baguio City, 10 from Benguet, two from Kalinga and one from Mountain Province.

Aside from the COVID – 19 testing capabilities, Pangilinan also reported that Cordillera is also in a good position as far as case management is concerned wherein aside from the 79 percent recovery rate, critical care utilization in the region is still at 28 percent. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
