DOH – CAR OIC Regional Director Dr. Amelita Pangilinan, in a Kapihan sa Baguio media forum today, also reiterated their call for cooperation among Cordillerans in preventing further spread of infection in the region given the spike of confirmed cases in past few days.
The DOH – CAR COVID – 19 bulletin today showed six new confirmed cases bringing the total recorded confirmed cases in the region to 101.
For the six new cases, two are from Baguio City, three from Benguet and the other one is from Mountain Province, its first COVID – 19 case.
Of the 101 cases, 52 are admitted in hospitals, 48 already recovered and one recorded death.
Of the 52 active cases, Benguet currently has the most cases with 21, followed by Baguio with 9, Apayao with 7, Kalinga with 6, Abra with 5, Ifugao with three and Mountain Province with one.
Pangilinan shared that the expanded testing among locally stranded individuals , returning overseas Filipinos , health workers and other front liners plus other high risk groups have somehow contributed to the spike of COVID positive cases in the region.
With the increasing number of cases in the region, Pangilinan calls for understanding and continuing cooperation with the fact that COVID – 19 is still in our midst.
“Let us revive and show our culture of affirmation. Let us set aside our differences. We are in this together. Let us show the world that the Cordilleran spirit lives on - our Binnadang. Let us show our grit and resilience. In God's grace we can heal as one Cordillera", Pangilinan stressed.
To the general public, Pangilinan strongly reiterates that prevention is still the best option against COVID – 19 primarily for each and everyone to always practice the minimum health guidelines like strictly wearing of masks at all times, health and good hygienic practices especially regular hand washing and ensuring social distancing.
She also reminds that there are already established temporary treatment and monitoring facilities and community isolation units for mild and asymptomatic suspect cases and COVID – 19 referral hospitals for confirmed patients and severe cases as well as primed – up Level 1 hospitals to cater to other medical needs to avoid exposure of non – COVID patients.
