Local officials led by Mayor Victorio Palangdan and Vice Mayor Adriano Carantes on Saturday initiated the disinfection and cleansing of the municipal grounds in Poblacion, Itogon using the bottles of gin confiscated by the police from violators of liquor ban in the municipality.
Aside from the grounds, the gin was also used to disinfect some vehicles being used by frontliners in their daily operations to fight the COVID-19 virus.
The Itogon Municipal Police Station led by PMaj. Rommel Sawatang has confiscated 40 boxes or 960 bottles of 2x2 gin which he turned over to the local government unit. The boxes of alcoholic drinks were confiscated from at least 40 violators of the liquor ban in this mining town since the start of the enhanced community quarantine in March.
Sawatang said many residents tried to bring into the municipality bottles and even boxes of alcoholic drinks despite the liquor ban imposed as part of the COVID-19 measures.
Meanwhile, with the municipality recording five confirmed COVID-19 cases as of June 15, 2020, authorities continue to remind the public to stay at home as long as possible and follow all the necessary protocols and guidelines to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.(JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
