Maj. Jeffmar Tercero, Magsaysay police chief, identified the suspects on Wednesday as Richard Balawag Calampitan, 29, married, and Francisco Diagone Calampitan, 50. Both are farmers and residents of Barangay Tagaytay in Magsaysay.
Tercero said the victim, Jerwin Masamloc Tiban, 23, was preparing dinner at his house in the same village on Monday when he was shot dead by the suspects.
Tiban was brought by relatives to a hospital in neighboring Bansalan town but succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in the breast, neck, and head.
Tercero said authorities immediately pursued the suspects who were identified by several witnesses.
He said police operatives caught Richard and Francisco in Barangay San Miguel in Magsaysay after concerned citizens informed the police of their whereabouts.
Investigators said the attack against Tiban could have been triggered by a personal grudge.
Tercero credited the immediate apprehension of the suspects to the information provided by residents.
“Crime prevention and solution are both plausible when a community actively supports and engages with the law enforcers towards attaining peace and order,” he said. (PNA)By Eldie Aguirre
