“Nauna nang sinabi ng Pangulo kagabi na patuloy na ipatutupad ng pamahalaan ang mga plano sa ilalim ng Bayanihan to Heal as One Act. Siniguro rin ng Pangulo na puspusan ang pagkilos ng pamahalaan upang masugpo ang krisis ng COVID-19,” Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease spokesperson Nograles said.
Nograles emphasized, however, that the ECQ’s implementing guidelines will remain in effect unless changed by the President.
“The IATF formally recommends to the Office of the President the extension of the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine in the entirety of Luzon up to April 30, 2020, 11:59 PM,” the official said.
“Provided, that all exemptions granted by the Office of the President or the IATF shall continue to be in effect for the duration of the extended ECQ. Provided further that such extension of the ECQ shall be without prejudice to the discretion of the President to relax the implementation of the ECQ in some local jurisdictions, or the granting of exemptions in favor of certain sectors, as public health considerations and food security may warrant,” he added.
The enhanced quarantine measures call on everyone to stay at home, to limit their movements, and to suspend public utility transport services, among others, for the entire duration.
The lockdown over Luzon, the country’s largest land mass and home to half of the Philippines' 100-million population, is scheduled to be lifted on April 13 as health authorities heightened efforts to contain the outbreak.
Of latest count, the country currently has 3,660 cases of COVID-19, with 163 fatalities, and 73 recoveries. (PIA NCR)
