Cauayan City deploys electric train to ferry frontliners

CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela, March 24 (PIA) – The Cauayan City Inter-Agency COVID – 19 Task Force, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), has authorized the use of the Hybrid Electric Road Train (HERT) in transporting medical, security personnel and other employees whose services are needed while the Enhanced Community Quarantine is implemented entire Luzon.

 

The Hybrid Electric Road Train, a 4-wagon train, was turned over to the City Government of Cauayan by DOST as a transportation project using electric power in its operation within the city.

City Administrator Jose Abad said as the national government has placed the entire Luzon under Enhanced Community Quarantine due to the threat of COVID -19, the HERT was deployed to address the need of transportation services for frontliners and employees especially those who don't own their vehicles since mass transportation is temporarily suspended.

Since the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine, the HERT was already in operations during its schedule trips from 6:00 am to 8:00 am, second trip from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and third trip from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. 

The task force designed two stations for the HERT trips which are the South and North Bound Stations. Going South Bound Station, the HERT will start picking up passengers at the Cauayan City Terminal and traverse Dalin Caltex – Cabaruan, Primark Town Center, SM City Cauayan, Rizal Park, Suysing, NIA Building, Minante 2 Barangay Hall, Nungnungan 2 Barangay Hall, Sillawit Barangay Hall until Alinam Boundary.

Going North Bound Station, the HERT will start picking up passengers at the Alinam Boundary and will traverse Sillawit Barangay Hall,Nungnungan 2 Barangay Hall,  Minante 2 Barangay Hall, NIA Building, Suysing, Rizal Park, SM City Cauayan, Primark Town Center, Dakin Caltex-Cabaruan until its last stop over at Cauayan City Terminal.

While the transport services provide convenience for frontliners and government employees, Abad assured the public that physical distancing is strictly observed during loading and unloading of passengers and inside the train.

Passengers are also reminded to observe physical distancing while waiting for the HERT to arrive in the different stations where they will be picked up.

To avail the free service, Abad said health, security and service provider personnel shall present their office or company identification cards to the driver, and must undergo thermal scanning. (MDCT/MGE/PIA 2-Isabela)
