United Front vs COVID. DOH - CAR OIC Regional Director Dr. Amelita Pangilinan affirms that as of March 13, Cordillera remains zero or no confirmed case of COVID - 19 and there are 12 Person Under Investigation that are admitted to various health facilities, wherein four of the already tested negative. 2 centenarians in Mountain Province recognized

BONTOC, Mountain Province, Jan. 30 (PIA) -- The provincial government  recently  recognized two more centenarians in the province.  were recognized by  the awarding of a plaque of recognition, a congratulatory resolution and a check amounting to P30,000.00.


On January 21, 2020, Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan  visited the centenarians Avelina O. Placido  and Petra G. Segat in their respective barangay to personally  award plaque of recognition, a congratulatory resolution and  check for  P30,000.00.

Placido, a   resident  of Gayang in Sabangan was  born on May 27, 1919 and  while  Segat of Lubon, Tadian was born on September 12, 1919 .

Giving recognition to centenarians in the province is provided under the Provincial Ordinance No. 192, also known as the Centenarian Recognition and Awards Ordinance of Mountain Province which was implemented in 2015.

It is provided in this ordinance that in recognition of the valuable contributions of each qualified provincial centenarian, he/she shall be entitled to a plaque of recognition and congratulatory resolution from the provincial government in the province; and cash award of P20,000.00 which shall be one time only; regular monthly visit by government health personnel for  check-up and monitoring by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.

The primary required document to prove the age of the centenarian-awardee is her/his birth certificate.

In the absence of a birth certificate, any other document such as baptismal certificate, school or employment records, which could establish the date of birth of the awardee. 

Since its implementation until the third quarter of 2018, the provincial government had been providing monetary  prize  of P20,000.00.

On July 31, 2018,  the Sangguniang  Panlalawigan enacted Provincial Ordinance No. 315, s. 2018 amending POr No. 192 which increased the provincial incentive to centenarian awardee to P30,000.00 . This was  implemented last quarter of CY 2018.

Based on the data of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office here, there are already 39 centenarians (24 female and 15 male) in the province recognized by the provincial government. Ten of these already died.

The municipality of Paracelis has the highest number with nine  recognized centenarian, followed by the municipalities of Sabangan and Tadian with six   each, Bauko with five, Besao and Bontoc have four  each, Natonin has 3 and Sadanga with 2.

In support to the centenarians, the national government also awards a centenarian gift  of P100,000.00 each and a Letter of Felicitation from the President of the Philippines.

Record of the PSWDO here also showed that of the 39 centenarians,  21 have already received the centenarian gift  of  P100,000.00 each from the national government and also Letter of Felicitation from the President of the Philippines.
