Benguet welcomes Cong. Yap as caretaker

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Jan. 31 (PIA) - -  Benguet  officials and  government  employees warmly welcomed  Benguet Caretaker Anti-Crime and Terrorism Community Involvement and Support Partylist (ACT-CIS) Party List Congressman Eric Go Yap   when he visited  the province on January 29.

In a simple  ceremony at the  Wangal Provincial Sports Center Gymnasium, Go assured that he will do whatever he can for the development of the province and its constituents, deliver what is due them and continue the work the late Congressman Nestor B. Fongwan Sr started.

Fongwan Sr succumbed  to a lingering illness on December 18, 2019.

Benguet Caretaker Anti-Crime and Terrorism Community Involvement and Support Partylist (ACT-CIS) Party List Congressman Eric Go Yap said   it is his obligation  to serve the people  and   assures that  he will do whatever he can for the development of Benguet and its people. (SCA-PIA-CAR, Benguet)

Yap claimed that his appointment as caretaker by House Speaker Allan Peter Cayetano has a purpose though he did not elaborate.  As  a public servant,  he said it his obligation to serve the people of the province .

“Hindi po natin papalitan ang ating Congressman Fongwan Sr. Hindi ko po siya kayang palitan. Ang serbisyong binigay niya sa Benguet hinding hindi ko po matutumbasan. Ang magagawa ko lang po gawin kung ano ang makakaya ko para maibigay sa mga taga Benguet ang nararapat.” (We will not take the place of Congressman Fongwan Sr. I cannot replace him. I could not match the service that he has done to the people of Benguet. What I can do is  to give what is due to them.)

On the issue that he is not from the Cordillera region, he said  he understands the sentiments of the people and assured that he does not have any ill feelings and he respects the tradition of the province.

Sharing his plans  for the province,  he said he will prioritize  to   work out with the Department of Agriculture  more funding for farm-to-market  as the main livelihood in the province is agriculture.

He made it clear though that the late congressman was able to include many secondary roads for funding.

He also said  he will  work  out with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) that the mayors will have the option and prioritize infrastructure projects within their turf. They know better what the people need, he said.

Improvement of  the  provincial  multi-purpose gymnasium and the oval  is another priority  as relayed by the provincial officials.

In a separate interview, Yap said the primary concern of mayors are the roads destroyed by typhoon Ompong which are not yet rehabilitated .

He said he will  talk with DPWH Secretary Mark Villar on what they can do about the reported  more than a billion worth of infrastructure projects returned by the regional office to the central office for bidding of which majority were from Benguet.

“ Ang maipapangako ko sa inyo  ay kung ano ang para sa Benguet dadalhin natin sa Benguet. Kung ano po ang makukuha natin na pwepwede dadalhin ko rin po sa Benguet dahil ako po ay caretaker ng Benguet. Proud po ako maging caretaker ng Benguet. Masarap po sa pakiramdam na maging caretaker ng Benguet,” (What I could promise you whatever is for Benguet I will deliver it. Whatever we can get that could be for the province, I will bring it to Benget because I am your caretaker. I am proud to be your caretaker. It is a good feeling to serve and to be caretaker of Benguet) , Yap stressed. (JDP/SCA-PIA  CAR, Benguet)
