In a memorandum issued by the Office of the Chairperson, CHED has encouraged the support and participation of public and private higher education institutions (HEIs) to this activity, in accordance with the pertinent provisions of the Higher Education Act of 1994.
PIA-6 OIC-Regional Head Jaime S. Cabag, Jr. said the training is an annual activity facilitated by the agency, which gathers student writers and editors from various publications in the region.
“This initiative has been in existence for 45 years and it has produced numerous journalists, reporters and mass communication professionals who have excelled in the industry,” he said.
According to PIA-6, the training has the following schedules for tertiary level publications: October 9-11 for HEIs from Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo; October 15-17 for HEIs from Aklan, Antique, and Negros Occidental.
Another leg of the training is also slated on October 21-22 in Bacolod City for targeted local colleges and universities and high schools from far-flung areas in Negros Occidental.
The agency has also set a schedule for High School Publications in Panay Island on November 13-15, 2019.
The seminar-workshop kicked off in Bacolod City last September 11-12, 2019 which accommodated more than 270 participants.
This year’s training is in partnership with the Iloilo Tourism Officers Association, Inc. for the Panay Leg and Negros Weekly for Negros Occidental. (JBG/LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
