More than 500 faculty and students from the different colleges and universities from the province of La Union are expected to join the Freedom of Information (FOI) Campus Caravan tomorrow, October 4 (Friday) as part of the one-day roadshow at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU)-Mid La Union Campus' covered court in this city.
Lawyer Kristian Ablan, PCOO assistant secretary, will discuss on the FOI and educate the members of the academe on their right to information and promote FOI program as a tool for academic research.
Highlight of the FOI forum will be the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the implementation of the FOI in DMMMSU, FOI Library Project and FOI student ambassador.
Meanwhile, more than 300 representatives from the provincial government, local government units, regional and provincial government agencies, civil society organizations and members of the media will join the afternoon multi-sectoral forum.
Aside from FOI, topics on safeguarding press freedom will be discussed by PCOO undersecretary and Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) executive secretary Joel Sy Egco, and the Executive Order 70 or the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict by the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency-Region 1.
Apart from La Union, next stop will be at the University of Northern Philippines (UNP) in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur on October 16 and Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) in Batac City, Ilocos Norte on October 18.
