Mayor Gaspar Chilagan Jr. issued on September 30 Executive Order No. 2019-20 declaring the "Municipal Road Clearing Day" and banning all forms of obstructions along public roads and sidewalks/shoulders in the different barangays of the municipality.
The EO took off from the Department of Interior and Local Government issued Memorandum Circular 121-2019 enjoining all local officials to exercise their powers essential to reclaim public roads which are being used for private ends and in the process, rid them of illegal structures and construction.
“All barangays officials shall conduct clearing of road obstruction along national, provincial, municipal and barangays roads within their jurisdiction. The Road Network Development Task Force shall ensure active participation and compliance of barangay officials and utilize available resources in the clearing operation,” the EO stated.
It also reiterated that all public roads including sidewalks/shoulders that have been appropriated for public use will be returned for public use and all kinds of obstruction like illegally parked vehicle, construction aggregates illegally piled on roads/sidewalks are no longer allowed.
Budgetary requirements for the municipal road clearing day will be sourced out from existing appropriations of involved offices. (JDP/MBL- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
