This year’s CWM celebration carries the theme “Sustainable Consumption: Understanding the Impact of Consumer’s Choices in Shared Environment.”
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Cordillera Regional Director Myrna Pablo, chair of CONSUMERNET-CAR, said the congress shall enhance stakeholders’ consciousness on sustainable consumption and production as well as advance the understanding of this significant issue to be able to translate it into concrete actionable plans and advocacies in our society.
The activity also aims to draw more concerted and coordinated cooperation among the stakeholders to ensure sustainable consumption/production policies and practices are established and maintained, Pablo added.
DTI Undersecretary Ruth B. Castelo of the Consumer Protection Group together with Director Domingo R. Tolentino of the Consumer Protection and Advocacy Bureau are expected to grace the activity.
Sheila Fuentes, CEO and Co- Founder of the Forth Co., a pioneer online marketplace mainly for sustainable fashion selections has been invited to talk on learning about the sustainable development initiatives of the retail sector and how to effectively promote sustainable goods and services to the consumers.
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1098 series of 1997, CWM is celebrated every October to campaign further the protection of the interest of consumers and to promote their general welfare.
Other activities for the month-long CWM celebration include hanging of CWM streamers in all line agencies, local government units and business establishments; radio and TV gusting, sustainable consumption forum, Local Price Coordinating Council and CONSUMERNET price monitoring, regional quiz bee, and closing and awarding ceremony.
