Judge Mia Joy Cawed administered the oath of office of the Governing Council officials with Itogon Mayor Victorio Palangdan as vice chairman, Tublay Mayor Armando Lauro as treasurer, La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda as secretary, and Sablan Mayor Manuel Munar and Tuba Mayor Clarita Sal-ongan as members.
NEDA-CAR Regional Director Milagros Rimando was also present during the oath taking ceremony. NEDA-CAR acts as the secretariat of the BLISTT Governing Council.
The BLISTT Governing Council is composed of the BLISTT local chief executives. It is tasked to provide the overall direction and coordination of all BLISTT development efforts, direct the implementation of approved plans and programs of the BLISTT Development Council, receive and manage the grants and other funds for the development , and lead the advocacy and investment promotion for the BLISTT areas.
Magalong said Council will be working in full cooperation and collaboration for the development and growth of all the BLISTT towns. He assured a better working relationship between the officials of Baguio City and the Benguet towns.
He said that among the priorities of the Council is the passage of the BLISTT Development Authority bill which is acceptable for all its stakeholders.
“In the absence of the legislation, we might as well make this as an avenue for cooperation and collaboration and get the commitment and each and every mayor that they will do their best to make sure that we will be able to sustain the development as a BLISTT and not just Baguio- centric,” Magalong said.
Palangdan said that he and the rest of the Benguet mayors are expecting a better direction with the new leadership of the Governing Board.
They will be working for the passage of a better BLISTT Development Authority that would really put importance and development to the BLISTT and its concerns. He said that the passage of the bill would ensure to provide solution to the many problems and challenges including the worsening problem on garbage, traffic management, water supply and the environmental protection.
