Provincial Youth Development Officer-designate Aileen Fateg said the celebration started with the provincial sports fest from August 7 to 14.
The SK also spearheaded a bloodletting activity on August 13 in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross-Mountain Province Chapter and the Provincial Blood Coordinating Council.
A team composed of staff from the Philippine Red Cross, Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital (LHMRH) in Abatan, Bauko, Bontoc General Hospital, Provincial Health Office, and the Bontoc Rural Health Unit conducted the blood letting.
A total of 10,800 cc or 24 units of different blood types were successfully extracted from 12 uniformed men of the Mountain Province Police Provincial Office (MPPPO), 12 youth including one government employee. Samples of the extracted blood were brought to Benguet Red Cross for screening.
On August 17, some 150 youth including personnel from the PNP, Bureau of Fire Protection, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and Tourism Office of Bauko conducted a trek and pick following the route which started at Otucan Sur going to Banao - Guinzadan then to Bauko LGU ground in Abatan. Along their way, they picked up solid wastes such as bottles, cellophane, cartoons, plastic containers which are separately placed in sacks. Collected wastes were placed at the Bauko LGU materials recovery facility.
An information education campaign was also conducted in five high schools in the municipality of Sabangan. Mr. Kenn Aglit, a nurse of LHMRH conducted an IEC on mental awareness, types of mental disorder and kinds of depression to students of Pingad National High School (NHS) and San Alfonso High School; Dr. Karen Balanza of LHMRH lectured on mental wellness to Grades 9 – 12 students of Sabangan NHS; Election Officer Clarita Lacwasan of Sabangan COMELEC encouraged qualified youth voters of Data NHS to register for the May 2020 Barangay and SK elections.
Personnel of the Sabangan Municipal Police Station conducted IEC on Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terrorismo to the five high schools; and Sabangan local youth development officer Victoria Tabora discussed on economic empowerment for the youth and possible projects to be implemented by the students.
Fateg said all the lined up activities conducted in celebration of the Linggo ng kabataan were partnership with the municipal and provincial SK federation officers. (JDP/JBS-PIA CAR, Mt. Province)
